Full Circle 4.12

April came and went so fast with so much going on for Full Circle on all levels--the dance company, the battle squad and the Directors. The New York Public Library has sponsored dance classes at their many branches with Rokafella and Kwikstep. Tuesdays were the day and the Webster and the Huntspoint Branches were the place. Thank you to Selo and to Karina who brought their youth group members to attend. We will have classes at the Inwood Branch at 3:30pm every Tuesday in May.

We were happy to welcome Kmel back to NYC to begin a new film project. The students at the Door were excited that he came to visit the Door as he was a Full Circle Souljah dance company member late 90's and in the first years of the millenium.
The Kadets (Tyfoon, Sole Junky and Kilo) also known as the Full Circle Souljah battle cats went to the SUNY Buffalo Breakin battle and took first place. Thank you to the rest of the Full Circle heads who also traveled 8 hours to support Henry Chop who left to college last Fall and has continued training.
This year will mark the second year Full Circle will participate in the "Dancing in the Streets/Casita Maria" block party. Thank you to Aviva Davidson who always offers our young dancers' a chance to perform. Below is the Vimeo link to our show last year.

On April 9th Kwik and Rok performed in "How to Break" a play about Teens diagnosed with terminal diseases still finding courage to be street dancers. The work in progress was presented at the D lounge written by Aaron Jeffaris and Cristopher Edwards at the New York Theater Barn. Pictured are the Playwright Aaron Jeffaris, Adam Matta, Kwik and Rok and the actress. Kwik and Rok have been consultants in this project which was spawned at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2010. Big shout to Claudia Alick. We hope to present it in the Fall at Here and word has it there may be support from the Hip-hop Theater Festival to develop it further. Stay tuned for info.

One of our dancers Kamsy "Flash" Duarte wrote and performed his debut one-man show
"Now and Then" which was directed by Kwikstep with dramaturgical support from Rokafella at
La Tea's "The One Festival". Thank you to Veronica Caicedo for still offering this
festival to all who applied. Big Shout to Ernie Silva who brought his play
"Heavy Like the Weight of a Flame" and a new excerpt to the festival.
Below is a foto of Flash during his performance. We hope to continue developing his one-man show til it becomes a full evening length. Stay tuned for future show dates.

Behind the Groove was a fun place to celebrate Spex's birthday. Violet and Mighty Mike
brought Speedy D to the party. It was a Full Circle reunion of members from
1998+ (picured below)
May's BTG party will be on May 8th.

Thursday May 17th All The Ladies Say will be screened at Miami's Pro-Am breaking event.
May 12th Full Circle Souljahs dance company and FC Kadets will join forces to premier a new dance piece entitled "Soul Intension" at Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance during the "Boogie Down Dance Festival". We hope you can join us and check out some of the other dance performances happening duriing the festival. We thank the entire cast and the Jerome foundation for helping us develop a piece that shares the deeper side of street dance, a side
most never see.
