Summer Full Circle

Full Circle attended the Old School BBoy jam at Goddard Riverside Center by invitation of Zulu Scott. Repping as well were the BBoys of RTR and the Zulu Natives. Organic battles and Poppin throwbacks by Jason and Normski were the talk of the night!

June 30th was the date for the amazing dance concert at St Mary's Park in the Bronx hosted by Rokafella. Performers included Kim Holmes, Ismael Otero, Milteri Tucker, Anthony Rodriguez, the Legendary House of Ninja, KR3T's and the Bedstuy Veterans. Full Circle performed a new piece choreographed by Fresh Frank--just returning from a 20 year stay in JAPAN!! Welcome back to him and to Beastie and Tiffany (pictured above) who have returned to the stage!! Thank you to Danni Gee and staff for allowing us a night to present our underground family on stage! Big hug to Kiba for helping us with operations that afternoon..much appreciated support!

Since its two founders are of Puerto Rican descent, it was an honor for Full Circle to march in the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade up Grand Concourse with our fellow Bronx Creative Collective--Pregones, Bill Aguado, BAAD, Pepatian Circe 95 Kr3t's and La Bruja. It has been many years that FC has collaborated with our Bronx organizations to keep the inspiration flowing. We have a mutual respect for each company's resilience in bad times and solidarity in the successes! The Bronx just like Puerto/Nuyo-Ricans struggles with erasing negative stigmas of long ago.. so it is important to celebrate the legacy of both entities! Yes, and on that day..our Japanese members became honorary Boricuas!! Thank you to Jane Gabriels!

Behind the Groove was invited to open up for CHIC-- yes of the FREAK OUT fame-- at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on July 25! Thank you to Bill Bragin. A group of regular BTG party goers/dance icons wearing red BTG All Star T shirts, made an appearance on stage dancing to Kwikstep's- known as DJ KS360- set that traveled through Funk, Hustle, House, Popping and Breakbeats. A cypher downstage within the crowd took place with dancers in the crowd getting down to music as well! Behind The Groove hopes to continue to provide a sanctuary for dancers to listen to great dance music from now and back in the day-o!

Thank you to Stretch and Uko, Nikki Tuesday and Nubian Nene, Jeff Selby and Robyn, Alex-Kid Dynamo, Peaches, D Rock, Future, and Shakey Shake!! Full Circle wearing Blue shirts included Kilo, Flonetik, Rokafella and Fresh Frank! Dancers like Neo, Shea Butta and many others kept the fire glowing til the very end! Below is a "Inside Dance" interview clip by Ashani Mfuko

Dance classes such as one at LIU by Ashani's invitation were aplenty this summer for Rokafella working the NYPL branches from Parkchester, to Sedwick and Inwood. Thank you to Christopher Shoemaker for envisioning these dance classes at the libraries as a perfect way to reach kids who would not be able to otherwise attend or pay for classes. The Door continues to be the go to place for teens to learn basic breaking and popping three times a week along with other academic and artistic programming. 212 941 9090.

Pictured above are Kilo and Flonetik mid air in their routine for the LCOOD show. Big shout to Full Circle kadets who worked the stage and the crowd. Thank you to Amanda Adams Louis for capturing the essence of dance with her photography both at LCOOD and St Mary's Park!!
Full Circle launched their new website thanks to the talents of William Focus Dubois with 5GM productions, so it is imperative that you to sign up to our site for direct updates and info on upcoming events and activities!

Dancing in the Streets held their annual Block party at Casita Maria and the weather was just gorgeous!! Frank Concepcion Jr collaborated on the choreography and music mix for this piece made shorter due to concert time constraints plus some of our main dancers were out of town. We thank Aviva Davidson and her Hip-hop Generation Next crew for the support. Thank you to Joe Conzo for his talents as a Super photographer!!
Big shout to Michele Byrd Mcphee for once again hosting her Ladies Of Hip-hop festival with master classes and performances to highlight women in dance! Our participation was a short but potent Bgirl piece with Rok, Tiffany now baptized as B girl ReLoaded, Odylle recently named B girl Mantis and Toko! We felt very honored to be the only breaking piece in the line up and well as women it felt empowering to bring this to a HIP-HOP dance genre concert! It is still difficult to draw in new students to this style of dance but when we make it look so effortless, some people may feel like they can do this too!
We celebrated Flonetik's birthday with a moustache themed get together with his family and then celebrated Kwikstep's birthday at a bowling alley in Manhattan...they were both surprise parties! Rokafella's birthday party was celebrated during the August Behind The Groove which also doubled for Miss Al Boogie's video release party! We thank IT TV for their presence and support and we look forward to working more in the future!

Kilo, Kwikstep, Tyfoon and Sole Junky will travel to Paris France from Sept 6th to the 9th to participate in the Festival D'Ile De France to represent NYC's cultural Hip-hop Dance phenomenon!
Kwikstep will then travel with Rokafella to help promote and introduce the world to KUDURO-- an original Street/Club dance style emerging from Angola, Africa. This tour will also make a stop in NYC stay tuned for more info. All we can tell you is that the Kuduristas will be visiting NYC during Labor Day weekend til the 5th of September with workshops and street exhibition battles!!

We look forward to: Fall with a new presentation of Kid Flash's one man show "Now and Then" at BAAD and two screenings of All The Ladies Say, Winter with a possible Christmas Hip-hop show and a February remix of Innaviews at Pregones Theater plus stay tuned for info to listen to Kwikstep commentating the live streaming of Red Bull Bc One competitions and a new play "How to Break" that Kwik and Rok have been consulting.
